You might assume that hair loss and hair thinning is only caused by genes, however, there are many bad habits that you might have in your daily routine that can cause hair loss and are damaging.
Here are six common bad habits that a lot of people have. Are you doing any of them?
Hot Shower & High Setting Blow Drying
Hot water dehydrates your hair causing it to become dry and brittle. The hair is more likely to break under hot water. When you blow dry your hair after washing, especially on the high power setting, it can also dry your scalp and strip your hair of its necessary oils.
It is not that you cannot enjoy hot showers anymore. Just don’t keep your hair underneath the hot water.
A poor diet or constantly skipping meals is not only terrible for your body but also for your hair. Your hair requires certain amounts of nutrition to keep in a healthy condition.
A healthy diet can provide all the necessary vitamins and minerals that your hair and body needs. Get protein which is found in fish, lean meats and soy products to help hair grow. Eat leafy greens for iron, nuts and seeds for Vitamin E and have healthy fats, such as avocados to provide your hair with the oil it needs to stay soft.
In a 2016 study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, researchers found a strong association between scalp-pulling hairstyles such as tight ponytails, braids, knots and buns, and the development of traction alopecia, or gradual hair loss.
Tight hairstyles can cause damage to your hair follicles. If you wear a tight hairstyle every day, it might cause too much damage for your hair to grow back again. So, keep your hair a little loose and give it some freedom.
Excessive Hair Styling Products
Hair styling products generally contain some sort of stiffener to keep hair in place. Also, many hair gels and mousses contain alcohol. These can cause a drying effect to the hair and leave the hair more prone to damage during the styling process.
If you use certain medications such as antidepressants, anti-anxiety agents and even hormones like thyroid replacement drugs, they could change your body and affect hair loss problems.
Over Bleaching or Frequent Dying
If you want to change your hair color, usually your hair firstly needs to go through a process called bleaching and then the new color will be applied to the hair. Bleaching can cause serious damage to the hair cuticle and can cause the hair to become thinner and more prone to breakage.
Try to avoid these habits in your daily life can effectively reduce the possibility of hair loss.
On the other hand, if you carry the genes that could cause men's hair loss, even you don't have these bad habits in daily life, you might still have hair loss in some point of your life. Good habits cannot beat with genes. If there are family members, either on your mother's side or Father's side, you will have the possibility to experience hair fall.
