How Do You Deal with the Wrinkled Front Hairline?

July 17, 2020

When you wear a hair system, the least you want is an ugly looking front hairline. You might notice someones front hairline seems like wrinkles. How does that happen? How to avoid that from happening? How to correct the wrinkle hairline and make it look perfect again? Read on to find out.

Causes of Wrinkle Hairline

So what might be the reasons for a wrinkle hairline?

Tape Being too Thick

For poly perimeter systems, some people prefer to use two layers of tapes. They first apply a layer of red liner tape onto the poly base and then apply another layer of extended bond tape on the top of it. By doing this, it is super easy when you remove the tape from the poly base because red liner tape doesn’t break down. You just need to peel it off. The cleaning work will be much easier.

However, two layers of tapes will make the whole base very thick, especially if the poly base is not thin already. Depending on the size of your system and the shape and contour of your head, it can be difficult to wrap that thick edge around the curves of your head without creating wrinkles, bumps, or gaps in the bond. Thus, you will see a wrinkle front hairline in this case.

Not only the front hairline isnt beautiful, but also the bumps or wrinkles will allow water, oil or sweat going into the bond and results in quicker lifting.

So, if your poly perimeter is not very thin, then you can consider using only one layer of tape or use glue instead.

Base Being Too Large

If your hair system does not properly contour to the curve of your head, or if the base is too big, you will likely experience gaps and wrinkles. Hair systems that are too big can create huge wrinkles or folds. Folds and wrinkles caused by inaccurate sizing are uncomfortable. Check to see if you inadvertently made your template the wrong size, or if the system wasn’t made correctly to your specifications. Either way, you’ll need to have the hair system remade or redesigned. In the meantime, you may have to do your best with the folds and wrinkles until you get a new system. Or, at your own risk, you could attempt to alter the base on your own to temporarily correct the problem.

Base Been Stretched

Wrinkles around the perimeter can be caused by the base material stretching, especially if you have a lace base. A minor amount of stretching will not cause a problem, but if you’re inadvertently stretching or pulling the base out of shape during the attachment or removal process, you are more likely to get wrinkles.

If you’re using tape on lace, be sure not to stretch the tape too much when you apply it. It’s okay if you bend the tape a bit to get around a tight curve, but too much stretch will cause the lace to shrink back and wrinkle.

How to Fix A Wrinkle

So how to fix the wrinkles to make the front hairline perfect again? When you notice there is wrinkles, you can use a product called ProTouch Adjust A Bond. Spay a bit Adjust A Bond onto the area where there are wrinkles, lift the base, and reapply it to the right place. Hold it in place for several seconds and let the Adjust bond to evaporate and the bond take effect again.
