If you are looking for tips on how to get rid of buildup on the scalp, chances are you love hair care products very much. While keeping your hair healthy and stylish, hair products leave also residues that accumulate with each use and get visible over time. As a result, your hair not only loses its aesthetic value but also dries out and gets less flexible, which makes fibers easier to break. Luckily, the following methods can help you eliminate the buildup on your scalp and breathe new life into your hair.

1. Try clarifying shampoos

While regular shampoos help you get rid of dirt and oil accumulated on your hair, clarifying shampoos are made to deal with hair product buildup. Using the clarifying shampoo once a month will be enough to prevent buildup from weighing down and drying out your hair. Nonetheless, if you are a fan of styling gel, hair spray and conditioner, you will need to use the residue-fighting shampoo more often.

2. Use micellar water

Micellar water is the favorite anti-aging remedy for many women. It keeps the skin young and beautiful, by providing a deep cleanse that removes dirt, oil and other harmful elements. It also works great with scalp skin and hair, helping remove exterior buildup on hair fibers as well as buildup accumulated in the follicles that clogs them up, impeding hair growth and reducing nourishment of existing hair fibers.

Micellar water is something more than regular water we use to drink every day. It consists of micellar, which are tiny molecules that attach to dirt and oil and pull them out. While clarifying shampoos are also great at fighting scalp buildup, micellar water comes with two additional bonuses that contribute to the well-being of your hair even more. Micellar nourishes the hair, besides removing buildup, making it stronger and adding more shine. Also, unlike clarifying shampoo, micellar water does not contain harsh chemicals, which means that you are free to use it an unlimited number of times, without harming your hair and scalp.

3. Try a mix of apple cider and vinegar

If the above-mentioned products miss out, you can try a simple remedy using household items that are always at hand. Combine equal parts of vinegar and apple cider, mix them up, and use the mixture as a rinse after shampoo. Use a sprayer to apply the mixture to ensure that it gets on each hair fiber and on each inch of scalp skin. Let it sit for a couple of minutes and then rinse well. The vinegar+apple cider will help not only to remove nasty buildup but also to detangle hair. This is why, you can make this mixture a part of your hair care routine, but don't use it every day as the vinegar acidity can damage the hair.

4. Add some lemon juice

Lemon juice is likened to apple cider-vinegar mixture, as it has a similar to vinegar pH value. You can replace apple cider with water. Mix juice and water and rub it into the hair and scalp. Make sure to lavish with attention each inch of the scalp to remove even the smallest pieces of dirt. Keep in mind the lemon juice needs sitting around 10 minutes for making its effect felt. After 10 minutes, rinse thoroughly and get down to shampooing.

5. Apply some baking soda

Another household item that is potent at pulling out buildup from the scalp is baking soda. Add a tablespoon of baking soda to the amount of shampoo you use for one wash. Mix them and then wash your hair. The soda particles will enhance friction, which will help remove stubborn buildup. You can also use the baking soda and shampoo separately. Just apply the soda onto the wet hair and scalp and keep rubbing until the buildup starts giving up and getting out. Then, rinse the hair and proceed with shampooing.

All in all, there is a myriad of ways you can remove scalp residue left from hair care products. The most efficient ones include using clarifying shampoo and micellar water. If you are missing out on these products, you can try everyday items, such as Apple cider vinegar mixture, lemon juice and baking soda.
