Men's hairpiece clips are the cheapest way to secure the wig to the scalp and prevent it from moving. They may not be that popular as adhesives and tapes, but they still provide a stronghold. If you are a novice in hairpiece wearing, check out the following guideline on using male wig clips.
How do clips work?
Clips are tiny brushes made of flexible and durable silicone that help to keep the wig in place. They are sold separately, then integrated into the wig structure manually. Once you buy a set of clips, you have to sew them into the hairpiece base. You are good to arrange them along the perimeter of the base close to the edge, but not too close to prevent them from being visible. An important thing to mention is that clips don't work with everybody.
You need to have some hair left on the scalp to be able to use the clips, as they attach to the existing hair to secure the wig in place. If the hair is thin, you may find it difficult to fix the clips, and if you still manage to do it, the hold will be weak so the insecure wig can easily fall. In other words, the more hair on the scalp exists, the more efficient the clips are.
How to use the clips?
To connect the men's hairpiece clips to the wig, you have to sew them into the base. Take a clip and place it at the edge of the base. Move one inch back to ensure the clip is not visible when you wear the wig. Make sure the brush teeth are facing towards the inside of the wig. Once you've found a good position for the clips, use a needle and thread to sew them. The standard clip has 3 holes on each side and 5 holes along the brush teeth section. You need to go into each hole at least twice to provide as tight a hold as possible.
As you finish sewing the clips, place them in an open position to ensure the teeth stab into the hair in a proper way. When you put the wig on the scalp, don't forget to close the clips by pressing them to make sure they are tight enough. Ideally, you have to place two clips at the front - one for each temple - then one clip at the crown, and one at the back. If you have much pre-existing hair, you can afford even 2 clips at the crown and 2 at the back.
Keep in mind that more clips doesn't mean a better hold. A clip needs a bunch of hair to work. If you don't have much hair on the scalp, you are better off leaving it all to a single clip rather than dividing it into two equal parts to satisfy the needs of each clip and getting a weak hold.
Does it feel comfortable?
Well, sometimes you may experience discomfort from an extended use of clips. To avoid pain from wearing a clip-secured wig, you have to ensure the clips are not too tight. You may want to create as much friction as possible between the clip teeth and the hair to guarantee a stronghold. However, if the hair is subject to extreme tension, it may hurt and even break. That's why you are better off loosening the clip a bit if you feel discomfort.
Should I use men's hairpiece clips?
Clips are a cheap way you can secure your wig. If you can't afford pricey glues or tapes, you can try clips. However, make sure you have some hair on your scalp so that you have what to stab the teeth into. If you have a sensitive scalp, clips may not be a good option, given the tension they create by tightly pulling the hair.
